#savelivemusic The Music Venue Trust says Last night BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2 and BBC1 staged the BBC Music Awards in which one of the big winners was Ed Sheeran. Whilst congratulating Ed on his well deserved triumph, and not wishing to spoil the party, on the same night the dreadful news that the 12 Bar is officially closing its doors in Denmark Street was announced. The closure of the 12 Bar Club must mark a key moment at which everybody involved in the making of music and the audiences for live music in this country come together and say enough is enough. We cannot continue to support a model of the music industry that is willing to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds celebrating the success of its topline acts but is unable to find the collective will and the money to prevent the closure of the grassroots venues that develop those acts. Its time to choose; another awards ceremony or the 12 Bar? Another gong on the mantelpiece or Madame JoJos? Another crowning triumphant night for Coldplay, One Direction and Pharrell Williams or The Fleece Bristol, The Kazimier, and TUNBRIDGE WELLS FORUM? Which do you want? change.org/savemusicvenues
