since August of 2011 I have lived in 2 places at the same time, Gadsden, Alabama and Nashville, TN. It has been a very tough commute driving 3 hours once a month to maintain my teaching credentials in one state while trying to live within a much smaller budget and continue keeping a roof over my kids heads in a different state. However, this is what relentless people do, they dont not back down in the face of challenges. I am thankful for having had the opportunity to bond with my father after being away for over a decade, we got the chance to clear the air and heal the old hurts of the past before his death. Now that my father is no longer here it is time for me to make yet another great transition. I had been trying to make this transition since 2012 when he passed but circumstances were keeping me stuck in Alabama. Those circumstances have now been superseded. Alabama will always be my root, it is the place where I was born. In 3 short years I had the opportunity to grow as an individual and as an entity. The Alabama accomplishments include: hosting my own spoken word show (The Ray of Light Open Mic Night) organizing my first community wide event (Juneteenth), Co-hosting on a weekly 1 hour radio show (Civil Rights Radio WJLD 1400AM-Birmingham), analyzing and reporting statistical data for Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, co-writing stage plays and being able to actively include my daughter in those plays, working with students in the Gadsden City School system, writing and self publishing 3 new books (with a book signing at Gadsden Public Library), teaching ACT/SAT test prep courses for students on their way to college and working as a tour guide helping people learn about the rich history of Birmingham Alabama (LaQuita Middleton-Holmes). During this time I also was blessed to see my son coming of age and learning to become a strong king in his own right. He will carry my legacy on in Alabama, he will remain. As he embarks upon a band scholarship at Alabama A&M (if all continues to go well) The drum that he has played since he was 5 years old is still his gift and passion. I pray they will take him to the places he needs to be to do all that is in his heart. As mom I will still be on the sidelines, coaching and guiding and being prepared to call time outs, lol. As I drive down this road and move the last of my things out of my meager apartment that served as home for 2 years I feel a sense of nostalgia but also a sense of pride. I am proud to have survived this fragile period of lost and found. ( I lost my last husband to jail, i lost my dad to the grave and i lost my mom to jail again). For all that I have lost God has shown me a way to be found, he has placed a great purpose in me and it has been found, it has been discovered. I am filled with sheer excitement and pure joy for what the future holds. My journey is far from over, the best is yet to come, some things remain uncertain for now but as God is my witness yea tho I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I fear no evil for thou art with me... Keep me in your prayers...Ill see ya soon...facebook/taomi3000
