since i started the day reminiscing about my work at TJCC, Dr Juan Flaviers quiet passing has also brought to mind one of my most successful videoconferences there, when i brought him and Sr Mary John Mananzan, OSB together as panelists with Cecille Yasay of PopComm for a discussion on HIV-AIDS and Population Control. it was a packed auditorium that we had, even if the discussion was actually on air via Worldnet with Washington DC. despite representing opposing views, the jolly doctor surprised the nun with a bouquet of multi-colored condoms at the end of the program, which she good-naturedly kissed! but more than his sense of humor, i shall always appreciate Dr Flaviers thrust of bringing doctors back to the barrios, and insisting that primary health care be a strong focus for both urban and rural areas of the country.
