((OPINION ALERT, OPINION ALERT)) Hey guys, its Heath. Ive been hearing some rumors about Sonys latest decision for Spider-Mans franchise, and I gotta say, Im confused. But with the idea of the TASM trilogy now being fully disregarded, and one of my films scenes taking forever to render, I decided I was gonna openly lay my sentiments regarding the series down upon the table. Flame me if you wish. I didnt like The Amazing Spider-Man. I thought it was poorly pieced together, and the look they gave for the Lizard defeated the purpose of who he was. Also, if youre gonna make Connors talk when hes a giant dinosaur, that kills it for me. His ability to talk means he still retains some- if not most of his sentience, (Exhibit A when he mixes chemicals together in the school lab to make an explosive, and Exhibit B when he actually recognizes/acknowledges Peter Parker on the tower of Oscorp) and that makes absolutely no sense to me. It renders the whole I wish the entire city was a bunch of lizards for no reason arc completely foundation-less and ultimately useless. The chemistry between Andrew and Gwen was great though, and Andrew pulled off a much better Parker than I or anyone else I know ever will. But still. That score. Sucked. So much. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 wasnt the worst film ever. Sure it had its pacing issues, and I personally thought we could have done without Harry, but it -almost- knew what kind of film it was trying to be. We didnt need Goblin to kill Gwen, though. We could have let Electro do that. It would have had literally the same emotional impact either way. Just let Norman be Goblin because its too late to introduce Harry- a character who is arguably an incredibly instrumental character involved in Peters growth as a hero- into the sequel. The score has its moments but that theme really doesnt scream Spidey to me. For Raimi, I didnt care for any of the Spidey films past the first one, but even the first one sucks after the first hour. (The first hour is classic gold.) And if youre gonna say Oh, but Heath, Spider-Man 2 was great-- no... The train sequence is great. The rest of the film, not so much. If youre gonna make another Spidey film, please for the Love of Nutella just dont make it about his origin again. I cant watch Uncle Ben get shot three times in two decades. I dont live long enough on this Earth for that. If you accept the films for what they are and what theyre trying to be rather than what you want them to be, theyre still really bad. Theres no having a more open mind here for me. They are just really bad, minus a small, small few amount of redeeming factors from Garfields performance. In short: Sony execs have never, and will never know how to handle Spider-Man properly. We wont ever see a good Spider-Man film until they hand over the rights. My render just finished, so Im gonna get back to editing. - Heath
