so aside from the broken toe, how was yesterday? thanks for asking, internet! Well, it was a fun trip to London - catching a bit of the souncheck and dinner with Vic before the gig was lovely, having a wander around Camden Lock reminds me what a remarkable bit of london it is, and seeing so many bass-friends out at one show reminded me how fun that can be - lovely to see Simon Poulton Caroline Fitch Mike Flynn Elise Jones Hal Carter Dave Swift Andrew Taylor-Cummings Tiago Coimbra Marcin Suchodolski ... Im sure there were loads more bass-chums there, but I didnt get to circulate thanks to my general immobility :) The gig itself was wonderful - such a treat to have Victor bring the band to London, and put on such an entertaining show - its always been the Golden Ticket of Victors career that he combines effortless virtuosity with consummate showmanship and some serious funk and soul. A lesson in how to create a context that doesnt leave dextrous playing as the sole preserve of beard stroking dudes counting time signatures and transcribing slapped septuplets ;) Im just sorry I had to bail before the end - couch-sleeping with a broken toe didnt seem like a smart idea, so I scooted across London to get the last train... (was a lovely mild night, and as it was just after the end of the days Ramadan fast, the streets of London were full of smiling muslims on their way to prayers. Great way to end the day, thinking about the diversity that makes London so wonderful, and take my mind off the pain in my foot ;) )
