state times jammu june 13 thursday To maintain check over Rehbar-e-Zirats (ReZs), the government has issued instructions to all the 2,642 workers to provide their PAN card numbers to the department along with an affidavit stating therein that they had no source of income other than the stipend they were getting for the past seven years. The instructions come in the wake of reports that most of the ReZs were either working in private companies or carrying out their businesses despite getting the stipend from the government. Interestingly, a very few ReZs, who are sincerely performing their duties, have submitted requisite documents to the government. According to highly placed sources, most of the ReZs working in rural areas and other districts except Jammu, have ignored these instructions. Their superiors were not also insisting for these documents, the sources maintained. The sources said that most of the ReZs in the rural areas are reporting to their offices once in three months to collect their salaries or stipends. They were allegedly enjoying this ‘liberty’ by sharing their stipends-ranging to the extent of 5o per cent-with their superiors. The controlling officers of the agriculture department o do not want that these 2,642 ReZs should get confirmed for the fear of losing ‘milking cows’.
