still...not sure i believe what i saw tonight with Northwood HS coaches.... Principal Charley-Greene: Im sorry to have to send you the following report as I know youve been doing a great job with the school…..but tonight, our Walter Johnson JV team played Northwoods JV team. While I first would like to applaud the tremendous efforts of the Northwood JV team; and their outstanding sportsmanship on the field, to our team as well as to each other, I was utterly horrified by the Northwood coaches. Most of the WJ parents were irate at the utter lack of interest and respect that Northwood coaches showed to these fine young men - particularly when they were injured on the field. It is no small miracle that those boys are as good as they are and as fair as they are in playing given the apparent lack of leadership they receive. Between the four Northwood coaches present, they apparently could not be bothered to attend to ANY injured NW player on the field - (slightly embarrassing when the opposing teams coaches are more concerned). One NW coach went twice (thats out of 10 plus injuries and he responded well beyond a reasonable response time) and a second coach went ONCE during the last quarter when the ignored quarterbacks injuries finally came home to roost. During all of the injuries the Northwood coaches seemed annoyed, distracted and clearly more interested in checking their phone messages, goofing off with Varsity (?) players on the sidelines, and ignoring the situation. I am clearly not even sure what to comment on that….if I hadnt seen it with my own eyes, Id not believe it. AND for every player injury - it was the NW players/teammates who attended to the injured players. For the first three quarters the quarterback #10 was limping and injured and asked for his coachs assistance and was turned back on the field….He was summarily ignored by the NW coaches every single time until he was finally so injured in the last quarter that he could no longer keep playing, whereupon two of his loyal teammates literally HAD TO CARRY HIM OFF THE FIELD…WHY did two of his teammates have to do that? B/C NONE of the NW coaches were even paying attention - nonetheless showing any empathy or respect towards the kids they are stewards of protecting and teaching. …..Throughout this piece de resistance final injury the NW coaches never bothered to look up from their phones….and I and EVERY other Walter Johnson parent, was disgusted. Several of us started rooting for Northwood b/c at that point (33 to 0) it was clear these poor kids who worked their hearts out werent getting any support from their own coaches. Not to be too forward- but its time TO CLEAN HOUSE. If one or more coaches are THAT burnt out, remove them or have them take a sabbatical - its not only bad for the kids development, its a lawsuit waiting to happen. Clearly #10s parents could lodge and win a lawsuit against the county right now for the irresponsible coaching shown tonight….and I wouldnt blame them. These boys, countywide, work too darn hard to be let down like this and theyre not getting the coaching they need. In many situations, a lead coachs bad attitude can sully the rest e.g. there maybe some good coaches there but its hard to tell by tonights presentation….Id take a long, hard look at getting YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER. Kids face enough disappointment in life…to work that hard and be ignored and belittled by ones own coaches? Unacceptable. Please call/email me to let me know what corrective action is being taken. The thought of those poor kids being subjected to such inferior and apathetic coaching is absolutely depressing and unacceptable.
