students should concern the arising pressure impeding the competition of Taiwanese from South Korea. That said, the students also believe that they are fighting for their future job opportunities being taken away by grand China. Why do I say that? Its because Cross-Straits Agreement on Trade in Services (part of the signed Cross-Straits Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement, aka ECFA) affects many industries in Taiwan. Let me elaborate further using medical sector as my example. Under the legal binding of the Agreement, Chinese business can invest and operate hospitals in any place in Taiwan. Not only the Agreement will stir up a tremendous amount of competition with local business, the standard of operation including foreign labor, medical technology and monetary outcome will par with that in China--in a sense that the medical sector in Taiwan will be downgraded. The government of the current term is desperate to sign the Agreement into law without revealing details of the Agreement and its related regulation and monitoring governing entities to the Government. (Whats the hurry?) Only blunt promises and close-door legal hearing are offered to public general thus far. Why, in a common sense, a good contract as it claims to be beneficial to all Taiwanese, appears to smell a rat? I guess nobody wants to sign on a sheet of blank page inviting any terms and conditions to be filled in later.
