talk of rich India at the end of Mughal rule is one big lie. Very big lie. True that the rulers themselves wallowed in the riches. Riches they earned by skinning the peasants alive. Outside few big cities, it was a lawless jungle, with bands of thugs roaming looting and killing people. Villagers took care that no surplus remained after paying the taxes and necessary to stay alive, so that nothing could be looted. If Mughal India was really a rich place, where are Mughal canals, Mughal roads, Mughal bridges, Mughal viaducts, Mughal dams, Mughal Universities? True the Brits developed much of infrastructure for their own conveniences of trade and administration, but Brit Railway, Brit canal systems, Brit Universities, Brit bridges, Brit dams, Brit roads exist and can be seen and verified. If they had been spiriting away all the surplus of the produce to England, how did all this infrastructure come about? To fall for the Leftist Big Lie of a Golden age of Muslim-Kafir co-existence of great prosperity disrupted by evil Brits, is to again shoot ourselves in the head. If those Mughal thugs were so rich, how did they get overrun by few merchants from far off Brittany? We should have better coordination with the English speaking world- the most innovative, civilized, educated, bound by rule of law and happening place in the world, even as we regain our poise and get ourselves out of the Leftist pond of misery into which we slipped as we came out of the shadows of the Brits. --- Shared from Vibhanshu Vb Sharma post
