tassieworldheritage/ This week in Doha, the World Heritage Committee will decide whether or not to agree to Tony Abbott’s request to de-list world heritage listed forests in Tasmania. With just days left before they consider the Tasmanian forests agenda item, there’s not much time left to make sure the Committee knows that Tony Abbott doesn’t speak for us. Can you help save Tassie’s forests by sharing this petition with as many people as possible over the next 24 hours? Every signature sends an email directly to the World Heritage Committee Secretariat. Let’s inundate their inbox and make sure they know just what Australians think of our government’s unprecedented bid to remove protection for Tassie forests. Australia has never before asked for World Heritage Protection to be removed, in fact the only countries which ever have are Oman and Tanzania! Last month I walked through the forests Tony Abbott thinks aren’t worthy to keep their World Heritage Listing - I hadn’t imagined just how stunning what I saw would be. Tony Abbott wants 74,000 stunning hectares of native forest to be allowed to be logged once again, despite the remarkable agreement between environmentalists and industry which saw this area protected. So please, sign this email petition to the World Heritage Committee and forward this email to ask everyone you can to do the same. Let’s make sure the Committee’s email inbox is overflowing with calls from Australia to protect our forests – because they belong to us and to our children, not to Tony Abbott. Sometimes we know campaigns like this are a long shot. This is not one of those times. We have a very real chance of tipping the decision of the Committee the right way if enough of us speak up. It’s up to us.
