#tbt with #RobinWilliams. For me, one of the most heart wrenching pieces of this whole Robin Williams suicide scenario is that last pic he posted on Instagram with his daughter. Thoughts of his kids dealing with this probably hit harder for me now that Im a dad. But it also reminded me of this interview. It was near the end of a very long press day for him. I came in and sat down - he was clearly exhausted, but entirely kind and engaging. The quick small talk before rolling ended up turning to my recent news-I was going to be a dad. The mention of it sparked him up. He congratulated me and had a genuine sense of appreciation for it. He had a couple comments about his kids, then cameras rolled and I asked him for a parenting tip. It was the best part of the interview. When I watch the entire thing back, he seemed to recall the early trials and experiences of parenting with such ease and joy. His family was clearly a bright part of his life. As we wrapped he congratulated me again, asked about the due date, hoping for boy or girl?, etc. A notably pleasant, genuine encounter that I will never forget - especially in light of such a tragic death.
