thanks for accepting my request to join this group. For my first post, i am re-posting the message i posted at the Philippine Energy Department page. I hope my solar fb friends will also write to the Sec. of DOE para mapansin tayo.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- An urgent appeal to the Hon. DOE Secretary: Instead of renting diesel generators as a stop gap measure, the time is now to seriously consider the widespread use of solar energy in Metro Cities. Besides, your department has the primary responsibility to implement the renewable energy act of 2008, particularly, the net-metering provision which requires the distribution utilities like meralco to accept excess energy generated by homes using solar power. This is necessary to encourage the shift to solar if consumers are credited for the energy they export to the grid during daytime and take back at night. The meralco meters need to be changed to allow reverse metering caused by excess energy exported to the grid. for example, if only 10,000 houses (the size of BF Homes subd.) will generate 500watts per second for 8 hours a day, its generating capacity is equivalent to a 35MW power plant. Please consider also giving solar power systems to our people who live very much below the poverty line. Copy the move of Peru, which gave solar power systems to two million of their poor people fro free. Use the malampaya fund for this program. Its the right use of this fund. Its a joke that Meralco, based on their annual report, only five houses have availed of the net-metering provision of the RE Act of 2008. This is because the electric meters of the DUs do not reverse meter the excess power exported to the grid for use later at night. The DUs, under pain of heavy fines, should be mandated to replace the electric meters of those who would like to use solar energy. I hope this mesage will be given due consideration. thank you.
