thanx for this, Shannon Dress. Actually, a lot of modern churches use bibles that are more recent and careful translations of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Torah, and other more authenticated documents. The King James Bible is full of beautiful language and poetry that shows up in classic literature, song and story, from the era when people, like John Steinbeck and others of his generation and earlier ones, were completely familiar with the King James Bible. To familiarize yourself with it is to allow yourself to understand the many references to it in classic and popular culture. Some of the sayings and stories attributed to Jesus are so beautiful and meaningful that it totally doesnt matter if it is made up. Like Terry Pratchett says, story is a major and important artifact of human culture, actually more important and human than things that are real in the physical sense, like objects of all sorts. Not insanity at all !
