the automotive repair industry in my opinion is one of the most un-regulated industries in the country. The standard for auto repair competence is flaky at best. This leaves the consumer in a very vulnerable position, especially when you consider the all around lack of understanding of what is actually needed to perform proper diagnosis and repair. I have found that the average consumer does not realize the importance of proper diagnosis and the costs associated with maintaining the needed equipment to accurately diagnose any given problem. Often times I find a customer will be more willing to pay a shop for replacing a part that may not be needed than pay a bill for the diagnosis of the problem. It is essential, for the repair to be a success, to first accurately diagnose the malfunction. I would go as far as to say that diagnosis is 80% of the repair. Anybody can throw parts at a problem, Sometimes getting lucky, most of the time not. It takes equipment and training, both of which are not inexpensive, to get to the bottom of a problem and identify the failure in order to fix the problem. I’m sure you all have been in the position where you go to a garage because your car is acting weird or just plain mucked up, and after paying a big bill find that the problem remains. So you go back….After a while, and another big bill you get your car back and it’s only slightly better, if it’s better at all… The problem here is that the garage never properly diagnosed the problem, either from a lack of knowing how or in the greedy interest of raking the customer over the coals. It happens all the time… IF THE GARAGE THAT YOU GO TO DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY THE BILL… It would not take long for repair shops to start doing their job if the customer never went back after getting ripped off. THERE ARE TOO MANY GARAGES AND VERY FEW OF THEM ACTUALLY GIVE THE CUSTOMER A QUALITY REPAIR AT A FAIR PRICE. I PERSONALLY TAKE GREAT PRIDE IN BEING ONE OF THE FEW THAT CONSIDER IT A GREAT HONOR AND OBLIGATION TO PROVIDE MY CUSTOMERS WITH THE HIGHEST QUALITY WORK AT THE LOWEST POSSIBLE PRICE, AND MY CUSTOMERS APPRECIATION SHOWS IN THEIR LOALTY AND THE REFERRALS THE GIVE TO THEIR FAMILY AND FRIENDS. 90% OF MY BUSINESS IS RETURN CUSTOMERS AND REFERRALS…
