the neo-fascist rubio gives his response to obamas opening w/ cuba. as a side note im certain the president has ultierior motives for trying to normalize relaitons w/ cuba. first and foremost is the buildup to war w/ russia in the ikraine. NATO is sending military equipment to the ukraine and russia continues to support the breakaway regions in the east. this crisis has continues to escalate but has recieved zero coverage in the american/western press. the ferguson riots drew attention away from the budget, the fact chinas economy is outstripping the US, continued unrest over austerity cuts in europe, the continuing tragedy unfolding in palestine, the horror of US participation in ISIS (via guns/$ to the free syran army) - all of these issues were sidetracked as america delved back into its racial politics (those politics will only benefit the Ds). now, we see a historic change in US policy exactly at the moment the BRICS (brazil, russia, india, china, south africa) are consolidating their power (creating a global infrastructure bank). obama clearly wants cuba in the western camp (us banks in cuba w/ obamas proposal). the americans can ill afford to have other latin american countries (venezuela, argentina, uruguay) drift into the non-aligned block. this includes russian and chinese investment in cuba (and latin america more generally). remember china is building a canal in nicauragua that will facilitate trade (w/ larger vessels) b/w asia and n america/europe. the americans will pull out all of the stops to preserve their waning power. its also a clear message to the russians (remember the US has also destabilized syria, the site of the only russian naval base outside of russia). cuba has historically maintained close ties to USSR/russia. although the net effect will be positive on the cubans (increased flow of capital to the island), im still leery of any foriegn policy initiatives put forward by the neo-liberals who run the US government (both RS AND DS).
