the save the river wqrriors have a date in Washington DC. We are looking ot get a bus to leave Stuart on Oct 2nd in the morning. We will travel to the DC area and check into a hotel...bright and early on the 3rd, we will travel to congress for our meeting with Rep. Pat Murphy and congress from 9 to 12:30pm. At 1:30 we have a meeting with Sen Marco Rubio and/or staff. then we will load up and head back full of excitement and inforamtion. we need sponsors for the $170 per person.... TRIP TO WASHINGTON DC I get the impression there is little support for this trip to Washington. While we have been off fighting for votes and congressional support, Nyla has been calling and getting travel and lodging set up for the first 50 people who wish to stand up before congress and speak or just show our involvement in saving our waters by taking of our time and personal money to travel all the way there to be seen and heard. It was all nice and fun when it was going to be a plane, but who had $800 to fill a plane. If we do not get the $5000 needed here, those of us who have scheduled meetings and speaking to congress will have to find a way there at the last minute at outrageous costs. There are 32 seats left. Or we need sponsors for the $5000 to get people there. So, here’s the deal. Go to: marinecleanupinitiativeinc.org/Donate.html. You can use a credit card or Pay Pal. Put a note on donation- “DC Trip”. Marine Cleanup Initiative Inc is a 501c3 registered organization and all of these funds are tax deductable. By donating or signing up this way, we can track all funds and get this trip scheduled. Our bank is Harbor Community. I can put together a nice spreadsheet in Intuit/quickbooks so we can have an accounting. I can even setup my phone to take credit cards. We just need to get moving on this. Time is very short. Maybe there is a sponsor that would front the $5000 and we could fundraise it back after we see if we are short from travelers. If this seems reasonable, please seek donations, sign up, pay up and let’s fill this bus and prove to Washington there is sufficient interest in saving this estuary. If we are done and have fought the fight for this year, please let the rest of us know. $5000 seems like a small amount to make history and stand before your federal government. And, if the government does shut down on the 1st, we will discuss how to proceed then and refund if needed. Steve and I have a meeting with Senator Rubio’s Washington staff and maybe more TBA at 1:30 after we meet in congress. There are loads of great things going on… now do we want to carry this on to Washington? There comes a time when we each need to dig deep and make the big commitment… first, do we have 50 people willing to go and stand up for our estuary? Second, do you each have $170 dollars plus food and fun for two days (most on a bus). Third, if you want to go and can’t afford it, are there willing sponsors? We have until Wednesday to move on this or those of us with meetings will spend about the same amount as it would cost to move 50 there. What do you think? Donate marinecleanupinitiativeinc.org.
