there is something about the first voice that melted you into a puddle. While I was seriously into Duran Duran for the music (and yeah, for John Taylor) when I was 12, when I was 13 what rocked me to cores I didnt actually understand for 4 more years was Spandau Ballet (Official) and Tony Hadleys voice paired with Steve Normans sax. Heres the thing; this sounds just like what they did in the mid-80s. Intellectually, I *know* that thats not a good thing; when BNL lost Steve Page, and started churning out boilerplate stuff that sounded like 1995 again, I left. But I cant help myself. Back when MuchMusic first started up, they played music on 8-hour rotation, 4 times a day. Sometime around now, and exactly 30 years ago, I saw Round and Round on Much, around 7:20pm at night. And I got up at 3:10am, and very, very quietly went downstairs to watch the song again, very quietly, with my tape recorder pressed to the tvs speaker to record it. decades later, middle of the night, I can play the music at a decent volume. No one will wake up. The song is good, though the lyrics are trite, and musically its just what they did before. And yet. That voice. That sax. My breath still caught in my throat and for a moment they made me 13 again in my hearts core.
