this is how i got to know Joe Cocker: from the opening credits of The Wonder Years. (probably most of my generation did, right?) I remember hearing the original Beatles tune and saying, ‘who screwed with the song?’ more or less. (side note: i have had a much better appreciation for the original after that initial shock years ago.) such a unique voice - such soul - and with this cover of “With a Little Help from my Friends” in itself is just an indication of what he has offered us artistically. may he rest in peace.
