this morning i chose the wrong glasses - the lenses magnified what was missing. no new school supplies. no artfully posed first-day photos. no organized bookshelves. no special breakfast, in fact, no cohesive meal to speak of. no visible counter or table surfaces. no rooms without partially unpacked boxes. and in the case of the rising 5th grader, no science or latin textbooks until 2-ish in the afternoon. i was frustrated and beaten. PRAISE GOD for the corrective lenses of His grace. tonight i see completed studies. finished laundry. seedlings in the fall garden. precious hugs from nephews and a home-cooked meal (thanks, Mary Ellen McChargue). progress. perhaps all along the chaos has not so much been in my house but in my heart. i will prayerfully reach for the right glasses tomorrow.
