this one goes out to K.W. The Farmer Zachary and family Plow Dirt He woke to the smell of coffee Most of the country was still in bed His wife was already cooking breakfast And soon hed be dressed and fed He fired up the John Deere tractor And he let it idle awhile The sweet smell of the deisel engine Plowed upon his face a smile His family plowed the soils of Tenessee Now they are plowin in Florida these days Eight generations of a farming family A family set in the farming ways There is a 49 Ford fender in the barn And hes driving a Ford today Its the kind of truck his grandaddy drove So there is nothing left to say He dropped his discs early morn Before any shadows fell And though it was breaking daylight A person could hardly tell He plowed all day yesterday Heck hed done it his whole life And he raised some chicken, pigs and cows With the help of his children and wife He dropped the discs on his tractor Then throttled it up and picked his line A fog was lifting off the field And blowing gently through the distant pine He loved the smell of fresh plowed dirt That same dirt flowed in his veins Passed down through the generations And watered down by countless rains He dropped his discs early morning Now hes plowing right through the day And though his body is badly aching He wouldnt have it any other way Hell plow past dark with running lights And hell be dog tired when he goes to bed And dreams of tomorrows plowing Will be two stepping through his head Well it aint just an urban legend Its a farm raised natural fact Some farmers put food on your table Some farmers put cloths on your back So if your of a mind and ya have a litlle time Thank a farmer for his long hard work Cause your peas and collard greens and the cotton in your jeans Started with a farmer plowing dirt ! ............jhs
