tl;dr ahead (Short version: Much drive. Such wet. So barefoot Hobbit adventure. Very Titanic flooding. Wow.) The misadventure that is something between Titanic and the Hobbit. It began at K-mart while we ravaged the spoils from their going out of business sale. While in line, I realized I forgot my purse. It was raining cats and dogs and foxes and guinea pigs and hedgehogs outside, but a little rain wasnt going to stop me. I was armed with an umbrella and I would be fine. Well, when I got outside, everything was a puddle. EVERYTHING. I removed my socks and sneakers and headed barefoot to the car. When I returned, purse around my neck to keep it dry, my jeans were soaked up to my side pockets. I went in, paid for my merch and told my loves that they would have to do the same with their shoes. We headed for the car. My driver side door was soaked so much I was relived to find that the window buttons still worked. What followed the walk to the car was a 2 hour long drive from K-mart to Kays house. Mind you, on any normal day, it takes 10-12 minutes tops. I will spare you the details of each street we tried but we ended up on I-75 S, getting to an exit and having to go in reverse because it was super flooded. We witnessed a rear-ending accident, a semi-truck flooded and stalled on Southfield road and even the LP police department flooded. Kays street was extremely flooded as was most of LP. The closest we could manage was about 3 blocks and a street over from his house. We grabbed our food grocery bags and anything we would need for the night, removed our shoes and waded to his house. The intersection before was up to my knees. Not to mention that a huge red truck went by and covered me in muddy rain. All I could do is laugh and scream, What?! When we finally got to Kays he gave us some of his guy underwear to wear as shorts while he washed our pants. Everything was grossly wet. The remainder of the day consisted of helping motorists on his street push their cars to the shallowest parts of the street, consuming mass amounts of pizza bagel bites, a few too many cans of Straw-Ber-Ritas and stumbling up and down the stairs for frequent bladder-voiding. I must say, I enjoyed every bit of the day because my car did not stall, nor did Elyses who had been on the street for almost 24 hours in standing water and I got a sleepover > w < I hope those who were not as lucky are doing better today. Stay strong!
