to all Participants to Club Dust starting tomorrow, Dec 27 Hello and Happy Holidays to you and your families. This will be the last message you get from us before we meet at the terminal 1 short parking lot at the San Diego airport on Saturday at 5 pm. Erich Meltvedt of Integrity Media made a great video that shows what CD is really about . Its a good way to show others what you are doing and the reason behind what we do. Click Here We have had companies, churches and individuals be very generous with donations this year and we are building 8 full sized foundation homes with latrines and an additional 5 latrines for homes that dont have a safe sanitation set up. All the homes are being built in an area we are familiar with and where 32 homes burned down last month. This note will give you some important information on how to prepare for the time there and it will also introduce you to the families via the link shown here Latrine Map Just open the plans here after downloading software for Google earth on your computer. The families are shown in the attachments above as well as a map of the homes and latrines that we are building starting Sunday am. The families are living in shacks currently and the weather tonight is 38 degrees so they will be grateful to get into their decent safe homes completed next Tuesday. Some things to keep in mind as you prepare and make ready for the trip. 1. Pack for mild dry weather during the day and cold nights. Layered clothes are good and sunscreen is advised as we will be outdoors almost all day each day. 2. Bring a sleeping bag that you may want to leave for people to use there in the village where we are building homes. 3. Bring toiletries , towel and pillows, whatever you need to be comfortable and to get a good nights sleep. 4. Bring your passport if you are 18 or older, even if an expired one , you will be fine. Kids 18 and under just need a copy of a birth certificate and a school id to get back into the States Wednesday morning. 5. Bring basic building tools, ie hammer, tape measure, and tool belt. We have enough paint brushes and rollers and well need lots of painting. Club Dust is a good place to learn some skills too, while you are helping people out ! Also bring your own sports water bottle as we will have water jugs in camp and at the worksite. It saves lots of paper cups if we all use and refill our own bottles. Even brushing your teeth we want to use only the purified water that we supply . 6. Remember to pack your best duck hunting duds for our awards night. By then you will be an expert on the show and be able to make all sorts of new duck calls. 7. Make sure to keep extra space in your luggage to hold 6-7 pairs of shoes. This is the way we legally import 1000+ pairs of shoes into Mexico. These shoes are given away in our free shoe store as a way to help the neighbors out and to give us the opportunity to connect with folks there one on one. 8. We will meet at the terminal 1 short term parking lot at 5 pm Saturday evening and drive away leaving at 6 pm. The buses we rented this year are called 5 star bus lines. They will be parked along the curb at the bottom of the escalator that comes down from the overpass from the terminal itself. Brian and I will both be there to meet you and get you safely aboard the bus and ready to start the trip. Brian Reynolds telephone number is (760)500-9226. Mine is Ray Meltvedt at (408) 205-3045 9. Dinner will be ready for us as we get there to the ranch. The ranch has only 170 bunks and we have close to 200 people coming. Thus we have asked all the folks who signed up in the last 3 weeks and those with strong young backs to bring a sleeping mat along with your sleeping bags and we ll find a spot on the floor inside one of the bunkrooms 10. Remember that Club Dust has no insurance and that we are just a group of people coming together to help others in need. We expect all participants to have sufficient insurance and take responsibility for their own health and safety while on the trip. We will never expect or push you to do anything you consider dangerous. If someone feels uncomfortable during the trip we offer a drive back to the US border but to date in 33 years we have had no takers but its an offer we stand behind. 11. With 200 people living and working together the opportunity for service starts with the very beginning of the trip. Help each other with loading luggage , finding seats and introduce yourselves to each other. Theres no point in waiting to get to know each other during the week so make a point of connecting right off the bat. At the crossing into Mexico we will need to carry all our luggage though an inspection station. Help each other out her as we will have some extra shoes and diapers in our suitcases. The trip ahead is worth the hassle of this but helping each other will make it easier on everyone. Some of the projects that go on alongside the house building include: 1. Bike raffle for kids staying and thriving in school 2. Fingernail painting 3. Hair cutting and hair care 4. Furniture building including bunk beds, tables and benches 5. Brick patios with locally handmade bricks 6. Sewing 7. Free shoe store 8. 2000 lbs plus of food for families 9. Family care taking 13 kids and their single mothers back to the ranch with us for some love and care over 2 nights there 10. 150 hand selected Christmas presents by Skechers employees for kids going to school there in el Niño. These will be given to kids through a local church at the feeding kitchen that we support throughout the year. I Look forward to a great time together. I trust that you will come rested and ready to step into a different environment that what we live in on our daily lives. If you have questions ahead of time feel free to call me or connect via email. My part is to ensure the trip is first of all safe and to that end we take all realistic safety precautions. An example of this is how we have all the wood precut which avoids saws being used by members of Club Dust who may not be skilled at the safe use of power equipment. I also am there to ensure that people get the most that they can from these days together. I am available 24 hours a day for questions or to help with any health problems that may come up. I am also glad to sit with a cup of coffee and talk about our 33 years of making decent and safe small homes for families, really for children. We hope that our experience which you are about to become part of will inspire you to do what you dream of or are called to do. Until then get ready , get rest and come ready for some fun and exciting few days together! Ray Meltvedt President and Founder clubdust.org
