#tristatewx Buckle up because we are going for a ride! A temperature roller-coaster is in store for your weekend. A lot of windy conditions, as well. Watching early February for a bigger precipitation event. Long way off in weather terms. The forecast... Lot of sun today with highs into the 20s. Winds will make it feel colder from time to time. Tonight...Increasing clouds with a few snow flakes in the air. Windy at times. Not expecting accumulating snow over far southern Illinois and western Kentucky. Overnight lows will be in the lower to middle 20s. Temperatures may actually rise towards morning. A clipper system will move southeast into the Ohio Valley tonight. This will spread a band of light snow into parts of our region. Right now it appears, once again, that the bulk of the snow will stay more to our northeast vs our local counties. Far southern Illinois and far western Kentucky may see some flakes in the air. Accumulating snow from a dusting to a few inches may occur just to our northeast (closer to southwest Indiana). Saturday - a few early morning flurries or snow showers - mostly over our northeast and eastern counties. Windy at times. Highs will be in the upper 30s and then temperatures will fall during the afternoon. Winds will make it feel colder. Saturday night - Clearing and colder. Overnight lows from from 18-24 degrees. Temperatures will then start to rise late at night ahead of our next system. Wind chills into the single digits and teens. Sunday - Windy. Down right mild compared to recent days! Highs will likely top out in the upper 40s and lower 50s. The warmest temperatures will be over our western and southwest counties (southeast Missouri, far southern Illinois, and western Kentucky). Sunday night - Windy. Cloudy with a few snow showers possible. Much colder with overnight lows falling into the teens. Gusty winds will make it feel colder. Wind chills will fall into the single digits. Monday - Cloudy with a few snow showers possible. Much colder and windy. Highs will struggle to make it into the 20s and may actually fall during the morning and early afternoon hours. Wind chills will fall into the single digits. Monday night - Very cold. Overnight lows from -5 degrees to 5 above zero. Pipe busting cold, once again. I have been forecasting a more active pattern as we move into early February. I am continuing to monitor 2 or 3 storm systems that may bring wintry precipitation to our region. I will have to closely monitor these events. Tele-connections and repeated model runs are indicating something will happen in early February. Stay tuned.
