unknown blessings…I was on the phone earlier today with a woman named Althea who works for my credit card company. We were discussing who was going to pay for the cracked windshield on last month’s rental car. Drove a car up to Northern Michigan to Lamb’s Songwriter Retreat, the temperature plummeted the first night and cracked the glass clear across the window. It turns out that “acts of God” apply only if God rented the car and took out the insurance…anyway, while waiting for her slow computer to catch up Althea asked if I had plans for New Years Eve. ”No”, I replied, “my wife is up in Minnesota caring for her Mom, so I’ll just stay home.” “Oh, is her Mom OK?”. I told her that her Mom had had a stroke and was now in a rehab facility but that the doctors were impressed at just how determined this 89 year old woman was. Althea replied “Honey, you don’t get to be 89 without being determined….what is her name?” “Gloria.” “Well, you tell Miss Gloria that on New Year’s Eve an entire Baptist congregation in Columbus, Ohio will be saying a prayer for her recovery” Yup, unknown blessings…may they flow into all our lives in the coming year. And if you’ve an extra, Gloria could use another prayer or two…Happy New Year, kids…see you out there somewhere.
