via Maryelizabeth Mann Michael Fallon MP, has mentioned EIAs in the latest drive by Government to see that communities hosting wind turbines will be compensated. Yet these EIAs need careful scrutiny by the communities for the errors and omissions they may contain. Only the locals/nimbies are fully aware of these and it is due largely to their efforts that EIAs have improved over the years. West Durham and Walkway wind farms were seemingly not truthfully explained by the wind industry. It should be corrected if locals are expected to rely on this information to make their decisions. I became aware of wind farms 25 years ago. Then with my late husband we formed the local group about 15 years ago to fight the Barningham High Moor proposal. The full story can be downloaded at http:/wind-farm.co.uk,’The Summary of the Long Fight to save Barningham High Moor’ I invited CPRE to join us then and I joined them, short as they were of manpower and thought it was well sited. I was able to convince them otherwise. Branch Chair in Co Durham for several years and now Vice Chair. I was not able to convince National Office of the importance of Barningham. 17 of the 25 proposed turbines were to be owned by a Swedish ‘farmer’ Under a Beddoe order I was able to pursue it to High Court. All that is being said now was mentioned then but it was the Duke of Edinburgh who was able to draw attention to the facts. Congratulations for what he has done in the shape of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. My husband and I were instructors in the Outdoor element of the scheme. Now in the North East many of the skills are lost such as using map and compass as one can simply travel from turbine to turbine!!! My self published books, all truth, sent free to MPs. MEPs PMs and interested parties, can all be download from here. wind-farm.co.uk/.
