They are waiting for the day when they can say with the utmost certainty: Homs: extinct Aleppo: A dead city, the star of the Dead Cities in the north of Syria. Raqqa: an extinct city in black. Ghouta of Damascus: Now known as the desert belt around Damascus. It boasts countless remains of towns and villages. Darra: an attractive archaeological site to be visited when you visit Basra Latakia: a perissed city on the Mediterranean, greater than Ugarit. And so on...and so on. What happened to the populations of these extinct cities? Answer: dead or and mostly of an unknown destination. Dispersed is the word. Lost is the word. Refugees, illegal immigrants, victims of human trafficking are the words. Tourists: you are welcome to visit the greatest tourist attraction in the world. A whole country in ruins. Archaeologists, this is your chance, a chance of a lifetime and many lives to come. Come and dig. Happy..happy digging.
