wants to make a very important statement regarding the tragic events that happened this past weekend and I would like you to feel free to comment, share, and discuss with as many people as possible and ask yourself what YOU can do to step up and help. Please keep the conversation going. Its so important. I am disappointed that for 6 days straight, Louisvilles lead news story stems from violence of a mob. We MUST have an honest and straightforward dialogue about what happened, and what happened on the TARC bus and how we are going to put in place not band aid type solutions but permanent structural changes in our city so that this does not take place again in ANY part of our great city. To me, this is simply about accountability. We should demand it. Always. We need to ask hard questions and public officials should be prepared to answer them. But we also need to ask ourselves the same tough questions and what we, as individuals, are doing to be the change, and hold our neighbors accountable to do the same. How often do we turn a blind eye? We are all guilty of this. We should be looking at everything right now and it should be a top priority: our laws, bus systems, improving public safety, increased police presence, our investment in education and whos being left behind, etc. Violence cannot be tolerated by anyone against anyone. There will never be economic times so harsh as to make this understood. Period. Its times like this that our community should stand together, and make it through the tough time, together. Anyone who decides to commit such acts need to hear loud and clear and understand that they will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extend of the law. Further, I hope every single individual who participated in last Saturdays events who thinks they got away with something they need to understand they will be found. And our public officials need to be more directly assertive and vocal about it. Lets be honest. Our city is only as safe as its least safe neighborhood. Only as successful as its least successful neighborhood. Louisville, and I mean all of us, need to stop turning our backs to our neighbors past 9th Street. Or any other neighborhood who needs our help. We must find ways to bring jobs to ALL our neighborhoods. Outside of the love of ones family, a good paying job may be the greatest social program there is. We must work everyday to make all our schools great. ALL our schools. Make ALL our neighborhoods safe. Only by doing this, will we attract more good paying jobs to the city and together build a true destination city. BUT we all must understand that we are ALL in this together and it will require all of us, regardless of where you live, to play a part. There should be ZERO divisions between racial or socioeconomic lines. Let the ONLY divide be whether you cheer for the red or blue. But we first have to be honest enough to say we have a problem and be willing to be apart of the solution and respect what everyone has to say. From there, the possibilities to fix it are limitless. I love and care for Louisville so much and this entire situation breaks my heart, BUT, we can fix it. I am confident. Lets do it together.
