watched a documentary about tanaquil le clerq, a ballet dancer who was with george balanchine and pretty much changed the entire face of the aesthetics of a ballerina. so it goes like this. shes amazing. shes STUNNING. shes fantastic. she is principal dancer for the NYC Ballet. it is 1956. the polio vaccine has just become readily available. all the dancers are lined up to get their vaccines. (they are about to go on tour.) she decides, literally last minute, to step out of line (she was actually IN LINE to get the vaccine.) and wait to get the vaccine until the tour is finished. on tour, she contracts polio, almost dies, ends up in an iron lung for a while, and completely looses all use of her legs for the rest of her life. she never dances again. she never walks again. she never moves her legs again. :(
