well, I havent really been able to post anything, since monday evening....what else could I contribute that hasnt already been so eloquently said - or sung - or danced - or laughed or cried about... Im so so grateful that I was able to be there, to be with my family - celebrating my sibling. my like-minded screw-ball-comic of a man. my oh-so-close-confidant, just shy of 30 years. Ive been in rehearsal, out-of-town for the past few weeks...in to ORD, early Monday, back out east early Tuesday...no real time to think about it...probably until now. it was sad, on many levels - my husband Michael (wow, yeah, I just typed that) and my sisters Judy and Rosalie werent able to attend - I know that breaks their hearts, as it does mine - it was sad because, as necessary and beneficial it is to have spent that amazing evening together...just like that, it ended. And it was sad, because I just want to talk to my friend again. to hear him laughing so loudly when Ive pulled a total Lucille Ball/Fanny Brice in a big ensemble dance number at Candlelight or overtly snickering behind his beast makeup as Joel Hatch goes blank on his tender lyrics in a Marriott TYA show. Or dropping me onstage as ornery dwarves in a ridiculous version of Snow White (enough Kim Mallery)... Quite simply, Im selfish. Because I want all of that. So, now....well Im gonna continue to send it out there..... the belted birthday blasts, and the bad puns. The words of the day and the manhattan in the nights ---- and Im starting by dedicating, and patterning my portrayal of Wilbur Turnblad in Hairspray, to my brother Bernie. Cause I know he knows exactly who this guy is - hes magic, and support, and a source of much needed comic relief. all real. Ultimately, I now know why Im here. ...youll never be old hat, thats that...youre timeless to me.
