well... it is really a cheesy prop piano, and Dooley Wilson (who played Sam in Casablanca) was not really playing it... he only pretended to play, as he was a drummer and a singer, not a pianist (the actual piano HEARD in the film was off-camera) ... and yet ... the Letters of Transit were hidden in this piano, and even if it only pretended to play , it was still a star in its own right. Casablanca is my favorite film of all time... most rank it the 2nd Greatest Film of All TIme, just a bit below CITIZEN KANE. There are some who would reverse that ... I am one of those some. I love Citizen Kane ... but it does not move me like CASABLANCA. CASABLANCA gets my vote as #1. Guess I am just a hapless romantic!! ;) If I were a billionaire , I would HAVE to bid on , and hopefully buy, this cheesy prop piano. But I could not keep it to myself, I just couldnt. I would have to donate it to an appropriate museum ... a museum of film, performing arts, or just popular culture. And hopefully, take a big tax write off for it. Still ... I might keep it around the house for a few months anyway ... before I let it go. And play it even ... well, assuming it IS playable , ha. Not clear on that point!
