EXCERPT FROM SUNDAY PENTECOSTAL SERVICE OF 1/12/2013. TAC Hymnal: 50,227 Scriptural Reading: Acts 3: 1-9 (Message proper) The preacher begins on a bright and brilliant note as he titles his words of exhortation thus: “RISE UP AND WALK,” with texts taking from Acts 3:6; 4:4; 22; Esther 9:1; Jer. 52:21. The preacher further examines critically what transpired in Acts 3 between Peter, John and the lame man at the beautiful gate who on this fateful and delightful day as usual was expecting alms gifts from worshipers or visitors to the temple and on citing Peter and John was moved intently to beg for alms from them but Peter and John filled with radical and rugged faith and belief told him bluntly that silver and gold they have not.. And Peter being moved by faith and not circumstances told him authoritatively to rise up and walk through the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth and as he pulled him up his feeble and frail feet and kneel received strength to the amazement and astonishment of all watching. Likewise, in the preacher’s explanatory note, Peter did not just decreed or declared but put his faith into action by aggressively pulling the lame man up his feet to walk, and walk he did! The preacher briefly mentions the negative effect of being in the state of lameness: “Destiny is wasted Stagnancy Poverty Over-dependence on human aids and relief Shame, disgrace and dishonor Persistent begging and pleading for alms or support And he adds this too: ‘a lame person with no self-will, self-belief and self-motivation will only survive at the mercy and magnanimity of others. He would depend solely on human assistance to walk, feed, live and survive’”. He further highlights the causes of lameness or feebleness thus from: Enemy Generational curse or spell—Gen. 49:3-4, but in the case of Reuben it was repeal in Deut. 33:6. In conclusion sin too may cause man to be lame, powerless, feeble and fruitless in all his endeavors and undertakings.
