what a wonderful day... yesterday i was riding back from paying a bill across town and my bike started to emit a "knocking" sound from somewhere... this was followed by a more frequent knock and accompanying squeal. as best i can tell something is wrong with the rear-end. i would assume that it is related, but last week i started getting a moderate low-speed wobble... i figured it was just time to get a back tire... i went this morning and bought a small trailer (was planning this anyway) to haul the bike to the harley dealer in town, which was a cinch... i found one online and headed out... the place was about an hour and a half away... and the trailer was going to be about $900 before taxes, and without counting gas in the truck. well, i got about 2 miles from home and saw the local trailer dealer, so i went in there and talked to them... they had a trailer that was 2 feet longer, a foot wider, at about $200 more... i went ahead and got it. i drove it to where the bike was sitting (and antique mall near my house) and set out to load up the bike. it was hotter than hades, and it took me a while to figure the straps i had bought out... i gotta remember not to buy things with the word "smart" in them... they just make you feel like an idiot before you are done. anyway, i got the bike on the trailer and strapped down, and hop in the truck...and the battery is dead. sigh... it seems i left the door opened for too long trying to figure the straps out. i called the wife and got her to bring the car, and jumped the truck. by this time i am pouring sweat from sitting in the sun, and have a nice sunburn to go with it. lol.. just my luck. i ride out to the dealer with the bike, and they are PACKED. then i remember they are doing KY and TN Armwrestling Championships there today. No way to get close, so I am directed to park in the grass lot up the road from the dealer... what a pain it was navigating that lot that was packed with people parking wherever they could. i finally got parked, unloaded the bike, and limped it over to the service center. they got one of their senior techs to talk to me to describe what was going on... he gets on, and test drives it. he pulls back into the service bay within about a minute and a half. knowing it was such a short ride, and that he pulled it all the way into the bay made my stomach sink. he said he didnt go far enough to hear any noises, but he said "it definitely does not feel right"... i went there hoping it was the rear wheel bearings, but he said he does not think that is the case. i am worried about the cost of this repair, even though this dealer has been fantastic so far... /me is scared of the phone call that is incoming monday /me thinks today sucked :poop:
