what is your understanding of the virtue of tolerance? this could mean your level of respect, detachment, acceptance, and gratitude from the effects of other people. certainly a challenge when your values differ drastically from those of others. yet there are some who practice tolerance on a regular basis with grace. how do they manage to keep their cool or stay balanced when they are threatened or stressed to the maximum? instead of defending your position, why not reach out and accept, benefit from, and celebrate the alternative view, or same view differently expressed? what opportunities does diversity bring to the situation? where disparate groups are involved, how can we all work together to reach a common ground? how can tact, diplomacy, appreciation be best utilized to communicate your position with brevity, clarity, and pure intention? bury the brawl consciousness and empower win-win negotiations to flourish. once the emotional shock and outrage have died down, why not focus on practical solutions using the current resources and infrastructure to gain a step forward? another useful tool - instead of reacting with anger and/or frustration, why not ask heart-opening questions? for example, some that have been inspired by Harold Klemp, the spiritual leader of ECKANKAR, religion of the light and sound include the following: [a] can you explain that in a more simple way? [b] what is the key tangible benefit of your approach? [c] your way may be the best way to go, but what is the cost? [d] do we agree that we need options & solutions, not complaints & aggression? [e] what are some practical and realistic goals we can set from our discussions? [f] forget about blame, who can we hold accountable for what happened? [g] what realistic time-frames or deadlines are we working with here? [h] for each proposed solution, ask; is it true? is it necessary? is it kind?. [i] where do we go from here; time, place, tasks, resources, people, etc? [j] im new to this difference in cultural attitude, can you please educate me? [k] where do we realistically want to be a year from now? [l] do we want to arouse peoples emotions, or inspire them? [m] do we agree that those looking for perfection are on the wrong planet? [n] is everyone present satisfied with the agreed upon course? [o] what have we all learned from this, that we can take forward with us? [p] what are the key three benefits realized, from this episode? [q] instead of reacting to the episode, could we discover the real facts? [r] is there a real and sincere need to discuss anything further? [s] how about calling a timeout of five minutes for individual quiet reflection? [t] are we he best people to discuss and decide this issue? [u] how can we be more sensitive to peoples feelings? [v] are we in harmony with the priorities? [w] what is the best long term spiritual or inspirational return on investment? [x] before we begin, can we try and put aside personal bias and bigotry? [y] what would love do next? [z] are we after a short-term band-aid or a long-term solution? problems rarely can be resolved overnight, but with tolerance as an ideal, there is much we can do to resolve or dampen sensitive issues. true or false? everyone has tremendous value, and authenticating this value in those we interact with can go a long way in embracing the issues between us, and move forward from there. a miracle can sometimes be as simple as a change in attitude. in short; unconditional love. i have discovered, indeed that if we contemplate on tolerance, we will often see that its just another way to express and receive unconditional divine love.
