when i started focusing on music in 2009, the first purchase i envisioned i would make was buying back the house i grew up in, in Riverdale, GA. soon after, i found out those staying in the house at that time had a meth lab in the garage that caught fire and blew up, quickly consuming the house in flames––it literally burned to the ground. these days, theres nothing but a foundation, a driveway with the word Ware carved into it where i used to play basketball, wildly tall grass, and a rusty mail box with the house numbers 2047 still on it. when i learned that J.Cole was releasing an album, and the title was the address of the house he grew in from age 13 (the age he started rapping) till it was foreclosed on when he was 18, and leaving for college at St. Johns Univ. in NY, i thought oh, thats dope. then i learned he had recently bought that old house, in Fayetteville, NC, and it made me sentimental. talk about vicarious living. congrats to the God, though. i feel like im going to get to know Jermaine Cole on this album. shout out to Hov for not hindering his creative process, nor the format in which he chose to release it––no singles... straight through. peep the trailer, its dope. Black Excellence, from a soul level. album drops Dec. 9th. studio tonight, Inshallah.
