why does sickle cell have to tamper with our marriage? where did it come from?...i did you know...? sickle cell disease occurs more commonly among people whose ancestors lived in tropical and sub tropical sub saharan regions, where malaria is or was common as well as, the A gene, which was less resistant to malaria. The body became more resistant to malaria through changes in its own way resulting in the HbS gene, a process known as mutation. Today it is a worldwide problem because of migration of blacks to other parts of the world resulting in inter racial marriages. All in all, the sickle cell gene,HbS, came to curb the malaria epidemic.
