Film makers are good at solving problems...usually the keys involved will tell you what they need and the producers will negotiate monies to see if its important or not,,, If its a hero shot, hero meaning money maker shot, the producers will have no choice but to fork out the cash to get the shot....worry about it later.. Haleakala/ Hana road Production : NY and Euro director: Euro Director: NY Job title: 1st AD yes... now you can see the problem already... two directors on the set.. two different productions... i agreed to do this shoot if they worked it my way... i had to make two shot list, call sheets and divide up time slot for each production... nightmare.. we had limited gear, not enough grips, no process trailer for the car,,which we made,,, helicopter shoot shooting Hana hwy with rain... it happened to be a day with no rain,,, the euro guys wanted rain because they are on the ground,,, so rain makers,,, 1000 meters ,,, nope,,, 100 meters at most is all i had... this isnt Hollywood.,,, now the US crew saying the rain makers are going to be in their shot,,, so i moved the location down....done ,, next they wanted something strange in the jungle.,.. ok what is strange?..something that is not normal...we had a list like animals with women, bar in the jungle,barber shop,, jamaican boom box...we ended up with a boat,,, done... catering... sushi??? euros love it. ok poke done... finally running shots walkies cant reach the picture car....so i had to coordinate action shot.( toy cars work well in explaining the shot). crane on shotmaker and picture going down Haleakala blind..... i had cops in from and rear....they kept getting in the shot...so i had them ITC ( intermitting traffic control).. and....cut..its a wrap.... this job had many more challenges,,,, but in the end,,, they got the shot and now they can worry about it.
