youtu.be/K8LLKO0-PAE Mike Cortinas Favorite time of year--Football season! Not only did he play the sport and is a fan but Mike LOVED being part of fantasy football! There were years where he was in 3 different leagues. It was humorous watching him manage his players in the different leagues... especially when his players went up against each other. I remember he would always mention his dad, Lino and how it was too bad he passed away before the fantasy football craze started. Back in our early days of dating I had fond memories of going over to the Cortinas house on Sundays. Mike would get the fire going, his dad was a big sport gambler and he would get us involved in picking parley (sp) cards. You aways knew if Mr. Cortinas was having a good Sunday or bad one by the volume of his music down in the basement and the number of drinks he had. His mom would make homemade mostaccoli with sausage or homemade pizza... and sadly nobody managed to grab the recipe! His dad preferred the Bears radio announcer over the tv so it wasnt uncommon to mute the tv and blast the radio. I loved Sundays at the Cortinas. I love football season with Mike and am missing his presence. We started a fantasy league years ago when my kids were little. It was comprised of mostly educators. It had taken a couple years off but started back up a few years ago. I know Christina Crites liked to razz him and I know for a fact she messaged him shortly before my dad passed inquiring about the draft this year. He was already talking about which players to look out for and how you should never take your first pick based on who was on the cover of the fantasy football magazines because they always end up having a choke season. Ahhh, i could go on and on about Fantasy, he seriously loved it. We had to have the NFL ticket just so we could make sure to watch all the games. He would always be conflicted with who to go with first... WR, QB, or RB. Many texts would be exchanged between him and Scott Francis, his cousin about which type of player to choose and who is going to have a good year. They also went back and forth on Cubs v Sox! It was suggested by my brother that i keep the league going and ask his sister Karin Wodzynski to be an honorary member in Mikes place on our team! Although its another thing to take care of I am so happy i agreed to do it. I want to keep his legacy alive through our league which we will now call The Big Kahuna for years to come.
