May I take the opportunity to remind you the same? The mikes went loud with your declaration. And it read: “Just let me know about the existence of any girls’ school without affiliation in your neighborhood. If voted to power; I must give affiliation to the aforesaid school within 7 WORKING DAYS”. Call it a harsh reality, or a sweet realization. During the last three years, you are in power. Am I correct, madam CM? No! It would be unjustified to call a distance of about two and half kilometers as a stone throw one. But, if you never mind; may I include the said distance in my neighborhood? Thanks for your unuttered nod. At about a distance of two and half kilometers from your dais at Narayan Dighi; there stands a girls’ school, Hazrat Deewan Zafar Shah (R) Girls’ Highschool. If anyone wants to learn the impact of CELEBRATED RED TAPISM & SHEER INDIFFERENCE; just visit the school once. Madam CM, you’d been talking about 7 working days. Three long summers with the length of three winters have passed in the meanwhile. The school is yet to get an affiliation. Respected ma’am, would you mind eating your own words? It’s hard. I know. It’s not munchable either. To worsen the situation, it’s not PALATABLE! What to be done? It’s the fate of 400 hapless odd girls (including 120 residential students), 9 teachers and 2 non-teaching staffs. Ismail, one of the members of district secretariat of CPI(M) of undivided Midnapur, proposed a girls’ madrassa in 1995. Dr. Syed Rashed Ali, prof. of Islamic history, Calcutta University, begged to differ. To the latter, if the authority had been keen to bring the Muslim girls in front row, if they really wanted the Muslim girls to harbor the enriching light of wisdom; why on Earth the authority was inclined to set up a shariati madrassa, why not a modern school? The argument continued for a fortnight. Later Dr. Ali’s logic sounded relevant to all involved. Next the million dollar question of raising funds knocked the door. The 13 member school committee headed by Dr. Ali passed a written resolution. It read: each one of the committee was supposed to deposit an amount of Rs 5000. In practice 12 of them excluding the headman made a British phrase speak. It spoke “TO NO AVAIL”. Respected comrades of left brigade, what a golden policy you crafted! Keep the problem alive and go on fishing in troubled water. From 2000-2008 you virtually played the ludo game of ladder and snake with the fate of hapless girl students, teaching and non-teaching staffs. Whatever chicken feed amount Dr. Syed Rashed Ali earns as a prof. of Islamic history, Calcutta University goes in the name of feeding the 120 hapless girls, belonging to the poorest of the poor families, paying the pocket money of Rs3000 each to the teaching staffs and Rs1500 each to the non-teaching staffs.
