youtu.be/v0dFcwHQ5gs Did you know that the tallest tree ever recorded was just over an hour from Melbourne? Did you know that some of the worlds tallest trees continue to stand there? Did you know that 2000 MCGs worth of forest are being bulldozed each year? Welcome to Toolangi !! in Part 1 of Where the Giants were we explore the issue of forest Hydrology. Victorian farmers have been put on unprecendented water restrictions. Logging in the Central Highlands water catchment areas is compromising their water security. They are afraid that they will run out of water if the logging continues. Old growth forests such as Toolangi are vital to creating healthy water systems. Forests act as a sponge to soak water into our rivers and aquifers. Farmers are understanding the correlation and realising that the protection of Victorias food and water security is inextricably linked to the protection of Victorias magnificent Mountain Ash forests which are being rapidly logged. The Great Forest National Park is a proposal to protect 350,000 hectares of forest in Victorias central highlands, providing a viable solution to the pending ecological collapse. the GFNP would also bring new jobs and vibrancy to local communinities away from the destructive native forest logging industry and aiding struggling towns recovering from the 2009 Black Saturday fires. Its time for the Great Forest National Park. A great city needs a great park! greatforestnationalpark.au Where the giants were...
