youtube/watch?v=4O-sMh_DO6I Following our last class, where we discussed cinematic interpretations of Historical events, I couldnt stop thinking about this movie and the horrid accents that take away from most of the authenticity in this film. Jude Law is cast to play a Russian sniper and throughout the entire movie he speaks with the thickest english accent, with no attempt to alter his voice. On the opposite side, Ed Harris is cast to play a German sniper, and uses his distinct American accent throughout the movie. The movie is enjoyable, entertaining and is personally a favourite of mine, but as far as the authenticity goes, the accents take away from this aspect. It is tough to be drawn into this story, based on the importance of defending Stalingrad, when the two main stars have accents deriving from countries that were not even involved in this specific conflict.
