Being an Irish Folk fan, in particular a Makem and Clancy fan , he described it as a good song, as it had a story to it. I had already learnt it and played it for him. One of the few times I played for my father. It became my party piece, winning a couple of talent contests and performing it at Strabane Rocks for Charity in 1986, Being a Bruce Springsteen fan I was delighted when I got the chance to see him in Slane on 1st June 1985 accompanied by Maura O Connor,later to become Maura Hassan. So the River gets selected for all the right reasons.
