Most of them were already gone, or only hung on to gold threads of pathetic existences. Jason Grace had been there at the final battle - a fiery path of destruction that waged war upon his home. Hed seen Octavian, the augur, no longer really a boy, deteriorating before his eyes, falling victim to the disease Gaea had unleashed. Octavian stumbled around the temple, barely able to hold onto his own insides, laughing rancorously like a madman, but even in those final moments as Roman columns fell to the Earth around them, he spat out a final prophecy. Jason barely managed to drag himself to safety as he watched the temple collapse and the last of Camp Jupiter erupt in flame. Years later, hed made his way to a quarantine zone on the East coast. Weakened by his faded connection to the dying gods above, Jason dreamt of the prophecy Octavian had uttered in his last moments. A prophecy that spoke of a demigod survivor, another who bore the answer to humanitys salvation. During a smuggling venture to another quarantine zone within the vicinity, Jason stumbled across another young man with narrow, haggard features, deeply set eyes, and gaunt cheeks.
