I had to deal with another vet when my vet was not answering the phone when my senior horse was found laying down. Any horse owner knows time is of the essence when a horse cant get up. This vet was not least bit sympathic or understanding of me being upset about my horse being down. I was not hysterical and my concern and urgency was perceived as rude to him and he took it personally. He even said to me he owed me nothing, even though covering for my vet, unless I promised to be nice to him I would have to call someone else. My husband heard my phone conversation to him and didnt think I was rude just a standard emergency phone call to get help. My vet finally called and came over so I called and cancelled this vet. I could tell he was young and apparenty does not have good bedside manner with people and emergencies. After he said he would be at my house n 45 min, which did make me very anxious for my horse, he wanted me to call another clinic which could have taken longer yet. Who does that to people with emergencies. In the end my horse I had for 20 years to be put down because we couldnt get him up. Maybe if he had been helped sooner it would have been different because my horse was healthy and a few hours earlier and was not suffering from colic or any neurological signs so dont know what happened. It is the worst to be faced with putting a healthy horse down. I am sure he learned the fate from my vet but he never called back. I have given it a lot of thought and concluded he is a big jerk and I hope no one has to go thru that when their beloved horse has an emergency and in trouble. His name is Bryan Buchanan DVM in Scottsdale AZ. For a bad experience with a big baby call him.
