In Frederick Douglass own story, Mr. Covey seems to fit the descriptions that this video explores. He was the most pressing example of religious hypocrisy, seem[ing] to think himself equal to deceiving the Almighty.(Douglass 544) Mr. Coveys false practices are highlighted because of Fredericks own beliefs: he never once blames God for the situation he is in, but only praises him when things go right. He even goes as far as to deny praying with Mr. Covey, because he is well aware of his deceitful actions. On the other hand, Mr. Cover seems to see God as a cloak in which he can hide his sins behind.
