Á morgun fæ ég að fjalla um friðhelgi einkalífsins á 21stu öldinni og framtíð lýðræðis hjá Alþjóðaþingmannasambandinu í pallborði sem er sniðið í kringum þennan málaflokk eftir að kalla eftir umræðum og skýrslu um málaflokkinn á vorþinginu :) Hearing on implementation of the 2008 IPU resolution on The role of parliaments in striking a balance between national security, human security and individual freedoms, and in averting the threat to democracy 13 October 2014 (2.30– 5.30 p.m.) Room 2, level 0, CICG Concept note Background: This hearing will be organized on the theme of the resolution adopted at the 118th IPU Assemby (Cape Town, April 2008). Presentations will be followed by a debate, during which delegates will be invited to express their views on their individual and shared experiences. In her capacity as a resource person, Ms. Birgitta Jonsdöttir, MP (Iceland) will share her views on Privacy in the 21st century and the future of democracy. The purpose of this debate is not to re-open discussion on the resolution. Expected achievement and outcome: Specifically, the hearing will aim to discuss the challenges to implementation of the 2008 IPU resolution and to compile best practices on the subject and follow-up measures. The focus of the discussion should revolve essentially around how the matter is tackled and on significant action taken in order to balance issues of national security with those of individual freedoms in the framework of the 2008 resolution. Format: The session will take the form of a hearing between parliamentarians. After introductory remarks by the panellists, the floor will be open for an exchange of views and questions and answers.
