للمغيبين Egypt authorities investigate leaked recording Egypt launches investigation into a recording allegedly depicting a debate among senior officials over forging trial evidence against ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi General Mamdouh Shahin, Egypts assistant minister of defence for constitutional and legal affairs Photo: AFP By Louisa Loveluck, Cairo6:15PM GMT 05 Dec 2014 Egypt is launching an investigation into a leaked recording that appears to show senior Egyptian security officials debating how to forge evidence to build a strong case against former Islamist president Mohammed Morsi. The recording, which is undated, appears to eavesdrop on General Mamdouh Shahin, assistant minister of defence for constitutional and legal affairs, as he discussed Morsis detention by phone. During a flurry of calls with other top regime officials, he suggests a number of measures to prevent Morsis case from being thrown out of court. The apparent deception hinged on manipulating evidence to imply Morsi was held inside a civilian detention centre, and not under the care of the military, as had been the case between July 3 and 7 last year. If anyone appeals this matter, Morsi will be out on the streets tomorrow, says Gen. Shahin. The case will be ruined, Gen. Shahin later warns. Morsi and his closest aides were arrested after Morsi had withstood days of mass protests calling for his resignation. telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/egypt/11276627/Egypt-authorities-investigate-leaked-recording.
