وَالْأَنْعَامَ خَلَقَهَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا دِفْءٌ وَمَنَافِعُ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ And cattle He has created for you (men): from them ye derive warmth, and numerous benefits, and of their (meat) ye eat. Et les bestiaux, Il les a créés pour vous; vous en retirez des [vêtements] chauds ainsi que dautres profits. Et vous en mangez aussi. [An-Nahl, 16:5] The Arabic word دِفْءٌ difun primarily means warmth, heat or hotness. Among its extended meanings also include warm clothes, which strictly speaking are thermally insulated clothing. Again if we translate literally word by word it says: and cattle we created for you in it is a warmth for you... So where does warmth come if we put aside cattle skin which actually does not provide warmth but keep the cold outside while keeping our body heat inside? The answer is the gas cattle release due to anaerobic digestion, a cow for instance would release between 70-120 Kg of methane greenhouse gas causing global warming. Now compared to carbon dioxide, methane by same amount has a greenhouse warming effect 23 times higher. And according to FAO cattle gas emission accounts for 18% of greenhouse gas. Without cattle our planet would have been much colder, but Allah soon says that he created cattle for us human to consume its meat. This is natures auto regulation such that if we all turn vegetarian we are actually increasing global warming which is taking alarming proportion due to cars and motor vehicles emissions accounting for the excess. Lets pray to pollute less and eat more cattle meat and may Allah save our planet. Aameen
