খালেদা জিয়া সত্য কথা অবশ্যই সত্য কথা বলেছেন। তবে... জানুয়ারী ৩০, ২০১৩ তে ওয়াশিংটন টাইমস প্রকাশিত (লিংক: washingtontimes/news/2013/jan/30/the-thankless-role-in-saving-democracy-in-banglade/) ”The thankless role in saving democracy in Bangladesh” নামে একটি লেখা ‘Begum Khaleda Zia’ নামে ছাপা হয়েছিল। লেখাটির নিচে, খালেদা জিয়ার পরিচয় দেয়া হয়েছিল এই ভাবে “Begum Khaleda Zia is former prime minister of Bangladesh and current leader of the opposition.” লেখাটির একটি প্যারার জনৈক খালেদা জিয় লিখেছেন, “ They also must explain to Ms. Hasina that general preferences for trade will be withdrawn if those who support workers’ rights and have political views opposed to those of the prime minister are not now allowed to express their beliefs. The Western powers should consider targeted travel and other sanctions against those in the regime who undermine democracy, freedom of speech and human rights. They should say and do these things publicly, for all our citizens to see and hear. This is how the United States can ensure that its mission to democratize the world continues. আজ দৈনিক আমাদের সময় পার্লামেন্টে দেয়া খালেদা জিয়ার উদ্ধৃতি দিয়ে লিখেছে “সরকারের এ সুবিধা বাতিল করা হলেও সরকারের পক্ষ থেকে এখন নানা ধরনের বিভ্রান্তিমূলক অপপ্রচার করা হচ্ছে। বলা হচ্ছে-আমি এ সুবিধা বাতিলের জন চিঠি দিয়েছি। কিন্তু প্রকৃত সত্য হলো আমি এ ধরনের কোনো চিঠি দেইনি।” (amadershomoy1/content/2013/06/30/news0032.htm) প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা প্রমান হিসাবে নিবন্ধটির কপি পার্লামেন্টে দেখালে, বেগম জিয়া বলেন, আমির “এ ধরনের কোন লেখা লিখিনি।” আমি পার্লামেন্টে দেয়া খালেদা জিয়া বক্তব্য বিশ্বাস করি। বিরোধী দলীয় নেত্রী এর প্রমানও দিতে পারবেন। ওনাকে বিলিয়ন ডলারের বিনিময়েও এ ধরনের একটি লেখা উনি লিখতে পারবেন না। প্রশ্ন হচ্ছে, বাংলাদেশের প্রাক্তন প্রধানমন্তীর নাম দিয়ে তাহলে এই লেখা কে লিখলো?
