’Cudas place 1st at Dick Tomlin invite Houltram leads Bullhead City past five squads in Kingman By DANIEL McKILLOP/The Daily News Published: Monday, July 1, 2013 2:28 AM MDT KINGMAN — Bullhead City’s Maddie Houltram had a perfect day individually and the Barracudas tallied 722 points to finish first as a team. Houltram, 15-18 girls classification, won all four of her races to record a perfect score of 36 points to earn the gold medal, which led the girls to victory during the Dick Tomlin Memorial Invitational at Centennial Pool on Saturday. The BHC girls scored 318 points, Cottonwood placed second with 242, Kingman finished third at 194, Needles fourth at 185, Sedona fifth at 76 and Lake Havasu City sixth at 29. BHC’s Sydney Burgess, 15-18 girls, scored 32 points to place second to earn the silver medal, and Barracudas’ Bridget MacDonald, 11-12 girls, finished second to win the silver at 28 points. The Needles and Kingman boys each came in first place at 306 points, BHC placed third at 272, Cottonwood fourth at 88.5, Lake Havasu fifth at 33 and Sedona sixth at 16.5. “I’m so proud of my team at how much they’ve improved,” said BHC head coach Ed Catalfamo by cell phone. “Our disqualifications were minimal today.” BHC’s Jeff Watkins, 15-18 boys, came in second with 31 points to earn the silver medal. The BHC 7-8 boys came in third place, as Barracudas’ Lucas Tolman placed second to win the silver at 26 points, and Ethan Anderson won the bronze medal with 24 points. “The depth of our team stood out today,” Catalfamo said. “We scored points in just about every event today. “I’m most proud about our team pride, spirit and sportsmanship.” After BHC, Needles scored 585 points to place second as a team, Kingman came in third at 580, Cottonwood fourth at 382.5, Sedona fifth at 92.5 and Lake Havasu sixth at 66. “When we walked in there it was not only a sea of red and black, not only from our swimmers and coaches, but also our parents,” Catalfamo said.
