‘’WORK HARDER AND STOP BRAGGING’’- AN ADVICE TO BIG BORAX Written By: Ebenezer Narh Affum Dancehall music in Ghana has come of age and notable Dancehall artistes in Ghana worth mentioning are Samini, Shatta Wale, Jupiter, Stonebwoy, Kaakie and some others .Apart from these artistes, there are other dancehall artistes who are really doing their best to promote the music genre and need to be encouraged. I have no intention of tarnishing any artiste’s reputation or destroy anyone’s music career but I believe the truth should be told at all times without fear or favour and that is what I really stand for.In as much as I can promote any good doing of any artiste, I believe I also have the right to correct any artiste if he or she is not on the right path. Do you know Mr. Borax who now wants to be referred to as Big Borax is a Reggae and Dancehall Artiste? In the late 1990s, he was my schoolmate at Accra Academy and I felt so proud of him when he started doing very well on the music scene. I would not be surprised if some people may not even remember him. This is because he has been away for sometime but he is now back on the music scene. For me, it’s good if he is back on the music block to show what he is made of but I am really taken aback by his approach to announce his return. For some weeks now, I have listened to several interviews granted by Big Borax to various radio stations and all that he keeps on saying is that Samini and Shatta Wale are now superstars all because he (Big Borax) had not been around. He is always bragging about how good an artiste he is and goes ahead to give the impression that so far as he is back on the music scene, he would sideline the likes of Samini and Shatta Wale. I remember I listened to his interview on Showbiz Xtra on Happy 98.9fm some weeks back and once again , Big Borax was bragging throughout the interview. He was bragging even though he had absolutely nothing to show for it. As an artiste, I don’t care if he has very good songs out in the public domain and he brags about it. Unfortunately, I believe and I am really convinced that Big Borax has no audacity to brag at this point in time. I listened to his new song on Showbiz Xtra and I was really disappointed. The song is titled ‘’take off your panty’’.There is no way that song can be compared to other Dancehall songs in the country as at now. The song did not sound well in my ears at all. If Big Borax wants to gain some attention on the music scene, he needs to put a stop to his bragging antics. I am very sure he has adopted the bragging approach thinking that Samini and Shatta Wale may respond to it. Funny enough, Samini and Shatta Wale seem not to have heard him and I am very happy about that. Samini and Shatta Wale have better things to deal with. The fact that Big Borax is a good artiste cannot be undermined. In years past, he had a hit track ‘’aseeho’’ with Daddy Lumba but after that hit, what have we heard from him again? Absolutely he has not been able to come out with any hit at least for the past four years or more and so he has no business disturbing us with his bragging. If Big Borax wants to have a rightful place on the music scene, have the audacity to brag, and compete against the likes of Samini, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and the rest, then he needs to work harder and come out with better and quality songs. That ‘’take off your pant’’ song is a big disgrace and time wasted at the recording studio. As to whether Dancehall music is his stronghold or not, I can’t tell but he could try his hands on highlife or hiplife. Big Borax can do much better. He needs to work harder and stop bragging. He goes ahead to name himself ‘’The Emperor’’.Hmmmm, I rest my case.
